UK/MANCHESTER AND LIVERPOOL SCREENINGS
August 1-15
Manchester's Exchange Square and Liverpool's Big Screen
VIBE is an international curatorial project that aims to present video
art that responds to the conditions of site specificity and a public viewer-ship.
Urban planners and architects are used to shaping cities by means of infrastructure,
zoning and buildings. However, other modes of intervention exist that are capable
of influencing the development of a city. Communicative media interventions
can transform public spaces.
VIBE: SUMMER 05 will be shown in three cities, Chicago, Manchester, and Liverpool.
Manchester’s Big Screen
is a 25 square meter video screen, located in Exchange Square. Liverpool's
Big Screen is in Clayton Square. The Chicago venue will use a site on a
busy intersection of Michigan Avenue and Grant Park.
VIBE: SUMMER 05 will be presented August 2 - 14 in association with the University
Film & Video Association conference and is sponsored by the Television Department
of Columbia College. A panel discussion about the VIBE project will take place
between Chicago and Manchester, UK with participants in both locations interacting
through video conferencing technology.VIBE: SUMMER05 will have a companion DVD
developed for publication and purchase.
